Fat to Ashes - Pauline Curnier Jardin

In her artistic practice, Pauline Curnier Jardin repeatedly confronts narratives from the worlds of theatre, cinema, myth, and ritual. As recipient of the Preis der Nationalgalerie 2019, the artist has developed an immersive installation in the form of an amphitheatre titled Fat to Ashes at the Historic Hall of the Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart - Berlin. She reveals and reflects upon spaces for performative display and the exalted release from prevailing norms as sites of transgression and transformation. Published on the occasion of Pauline Curnier Jardin's first institutional solo exhibition in Germany, this volume is the first book devoted to her work.

In ihrer künstlerischen Praxis setzt sich Pauline Curnier Jardin immer wieder mit Narrativen aus den Welten des Theaters, des Kinos, der Mythen und der Rituale auseinander. Als Trägerin des Preis der Nationalgalerie 2019 hat die Künstlerin unter dem Titel Fat to Ashes in der Historischen Halle des Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart - Berlin eine raumgreifende und begehbare Installation in Gestalt einer Arena entwickelt, in der sie Handlungsräume der performativen Zurschaustellung und der exaltierten Loslösung von geltenden Normen als Orte der Transgression und der Verwandlung zeigt und reflektiert. Anlässlich dieser ersten Einzelausstellung Pauline Curnier Jardins in einem Museum in Deutschland erscheint diese erste Publikation zum Werk der Künstlerin.
