"Son of a Witch" Discussion, with Sara Giannini and Patrizio di Massimo

Saturday, July 5th, 5:00 pm

As part of his current exhibition Son of a Witch, Patrizio di Massimo will be in conversation with Amsterdam-based curator Sara Giannini, author of the text accompanying the show. Using it as a starting point, they will discuss performativity, spiritual belonging, gender identity, and matrilineal genealogy—while also reflecting on their long-standing friendship and how personal histories shape their work.

Sara Giannini is a curator, writer, and educator based in Amsterdam. Since 2020, she has been programme curator at If I Can’t Dance, I Don’t Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution, where she develops art and research commissions in collaboration with artists, writers, and other practitioners working in the expansive field of performativity.

Patrizio di Massimo lives and works in London. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. Over the past decade, di Massimo has developed a distinctive visual language in which his figurative paintings reference art history—particularly the theatricality of the Baroque and the conventions of historical portraiture—combined with an investigation into the domestic, the intimate, and the mysterious aspects of contemporary life. His work often incorporates uncanny or grotesque elements to explore themes such as identity, desire, spirituality, and the construction of the self.
